We’re getting down to the nitty gritty with our first font, Porter! Being its our first, it’s fun discovering all of the small details and steps that go into type design that isn’t necessarily covered in books or tutorials.
The process has been exciting to say the least. We’ve completed over 100 glyphs and currently have pages of type printed and hanging on the walls to make sure we’re creating something that’s going to hold up well to use and maintain a quality standard.
As we’re winding down to release, we’ve got our eyes on a few remaining things. Kerning is being constantly tweaked and refined. BubbleKern has been a gigantic help getting things going int he right direction!
Stroke weights and terminals are also being tweaked. The age-old fun of what’s technically the same width and visually the same width really takes hold as we look over the font.
And last, licensing. We’re working on something that will be fair to us as well as you, the end user. The aim is to keep it simple and understandable.
If you’re keeping track, our aim is to have Porter out by this October. The font will be made available in OTF format for desktop and a webfont version as well.
We can’t wait for our new font, and we hope you feel the same!
